At the risk of revealing my age, I will say that I remember a time when deer and turkey were almost non-existent in northern Cherokee, as well as most of Pickens County. That is definitely not the case today! Ga. DNR coupled with sportsmen in the area have done an excellent job in the past 20 years bringing back the populations. Turkey and deer are simply everywhere you care to look around here these days. And being a fairly passionate hunter myself, I’m sad to say that none in the last few years have been added to my personal trophy wall. But I can tell you that there are bucks coming from properties here that rival those from any county in the state.
There’s still a lot of large privately owned timberland tracts of land in both North Cherokee and Pickens County which are leased for hunting. But for those who enjoy hunting with a stick and string (archery), you will find 2,225 public unpressured, great! WMA acres called Mcgraw Ford just 5 miles from the town of Ball Ground, on hwy 372 and Conns Creek Rd. The Etowah River runs through the property. Which also offers good fishing and all sorts of Summer fun.
Ok here comes the sales pitch. For you guys and gals who prefer to own your own private hunting paradise all to yourselves, The Ball Ground area has lots of land available for you as well. And yes that’s where yours truly can help. You can check out all the listings here and give me a call.
